ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoIT&T) has been tasked with land record digitisation by the Federal Cabinet.

Earlier, the Ministry of Science and Technology (MoS&T) was assigned the task. However, the cabinet was briefed on the ministry’s mandate, which includes planning, coordinating and directing efforts to initiate & launch scientific and technological programs and projects as per the national plan for a sound and sustainable S&TR base for the socio-economic development of the country.

After thoroughly reviewing the decisions of the cabinet and the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination Division, the MoST approached the Cabinet Division to advise the transfer of tasks to the Ministry of Information Technology & Telecommunication (MoIT&T) and National Food Security & Research (MoNFS&R).

Following these developments, the MoIT&T agreed to play an enabler and facilitator role, with the MoNFS&R assigned the lead role with the mandate of agriculture about them.

After formulating the Digital Pakistan Policy (DPP) to form a digital ecosystem aligned with infrastructure and institutional frameworks, the MoIT&T and MoNFS&R have collaborated to create the ‘Agriculture Information Portal’.

The land record information management authorities have been established in all provinces across Pakistan. Under this system, Punjab had digitised 92 per cent land record and 100 per cent crop reporting system. KPK had digitalised approximately 50 per cent land record and 6-7 per cent crops reporting system. Balochistan had digitised land records of 4 districts.
