How to Check Sims on ID Card Online

As the dawn of the new millennium unfolded, the year 2000 witnessed a sweeping transformation in Pakistan. Cellular phones, once considered a luxury, swiftly evolved into an indispensable part of daily life. The convergence of plummeting prices and widespread availability propelled a surge in cellular subscribers, fundamentally altering the landscape of communication.

Yet, this era of connectivity came with its own set of unintentional consequences that weren’t all positive. The misuse of this technological boon became glaringly apparent as unregistered SIM cards became entangled in a web of illicit activities and acts of terrorism.

In response to these challenges, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) introduced the SIM Information System in 2009. This system aimed to maintain a digital record of SIM subscribers, enabling users to check the number of active SIMs issued against their Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC). This blog unravels the intricate relationship between advance communication and the intricate challenges posed to national security in Pakistan.

Understanding the Limit on SIM Cards

Before delving into the methods of checking the number of active SIMs, it’s crucial to grasp the limitations set by the PTA. Individuals are allowed a maximum of five SIM cards registered under their CNIC simultaneously. If you already have five registered SIMs and wish to obtain another, blocking an unused SIM is necessary to adhere to the limit.

How to Check the Number of Active SIMs Issued Against Your CNIC

To ascertain the number of active SIM cards linked to your CNIC, two straightforward methods are available:

Through Website:

Follow the following step if you want to know how to check the number of sims on your ID card online:

  • Visit the PTA SIM Information Website.
  • Enter your CNIC number in the provided field.
  • Verify your identity as a human and click ‘Submit.’
  • View a detailed list of registered SIMs categorized by operators.

  • Type your CNIC number without hyphens.
  • Send the message to 668.
  • Receive a text message detailing the total number of active SIM cards for each operator.
  • Note: Each SMS sent to 668 incurs a charge of PKR 2+ tax

Understanding SIM Cloning and the PTA Biometric Verification System

The threat of SIM cloning, where a duplicate SIM is created, necessitates vigilance. The PTA Biometric Verification System (BVS) is a vital tool in ensuring cellular subscriber safety and curbing illegal mobile phone usage. This system facilitates various actions, including obtaining a duplicate SIM, activating or purchasing a new SIM, changing SIM ownership, re-verifying your SIM, and addressing issues related to mobile number portability.
