Foster + Partners replaces MAD on Hollywood The Star tower design
Foster + Partners emerges as the architects unveiling a new design to supplant the earlier creation by MAD Architects for The Star project situated at 6061 W Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood. The Star, a prominent feature of the Hollywood landscape, will now be reimagined by Foster + Partners, signaling a shift in architectural direction for the iconic location.
Hollywood, Los Angeles, is poised to welcome a vibrant new landmark as Foster + Partners reveals updated blueprints for The Star, a $1 billion vertical creative office campus. Situated on a two-acre plot at 6061 W. Sunset Boulevard, The Star project, spearheaded by The Star LLC, aims to establish a nucleus for Hollywood’s premier content creators. Architect Norman Foster envisions The Star as a dynamic, spiraling tower boasting expansive floor plates, generous outdoor spaces, and panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows that afford unobstructed cityscape views, the iconic Hollywood Sign, and the picturesque California coastline. The structure’s focal point will undoubtedly be its verdant, spiraling gardens, ascending from street level to the rooftop eatery.
Both Maggie Miracle, CEO of The Tower LLC, and architect Norman Foster, founder of Foster + Partners, highlight the project’s emphasis on cultivating a lively, creative community in Hollywood. ‘The Star’ is crafted to seamlessly integrate indoor and outdoor workspaces, providing collaborative zones alongside areas conducive to solitary reflection and inventive thinking. Foster characterizes the project as a genuine representation of the workplace of tomorrow, fostering creativity and collaboration through its distinctive design.
Nigel Dancey, heading the design team at Foster + Partners, emphasizes how ‘The Star’s’ architectural form not only provides stunning vistas but also captures the essence of Hollywood. The Tower places a premium on natural light and ventilation, fostering a healthful and efficient workspace for its occupants. Senior Partner Patrick Campbell of Foster + Partners further elucidates this commitment to sustainability: “The integration of cascading gardens and abundant natural light fosters a robust and productive work atmosphere.”
The Tower goes beyond its primary office area, aspiring to integrate seamlessly into the fabric of Hollywood. At street level, The Tower will boast a pedestrian-friendly zone hosting a large LED screen, enticing eateries, communal areas, a theater, and an art gallery. This emphasis on public involvement assures that The Tower will emerge as a dynamic hub catering to its occupants and the wider Hollywood community.
