Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa is looking for consultants to develop feasibility studies for two hospital projects in Free State Province. The deadline for submitting proposals for both projects is 31 January.
The first project concerns the development of a new psychiatric hospital.
The existing facility, Free State Psychiatric Hospital, dates from 1833 and is the only tertiary mental facility in the province. It has 877 beds. According to the tender document, most of the buildings on the premises need upgrading and the water and electricity supply infrastructure is outdated and cannot support demand.
The Free State Department of Health intends to build a new psychiatric hospital and a consultant is required to develop a comprehensive feasibility study, including a full business case for the project, as well as provide a plan for its development, execution, and operation.
The second project entails the development a new district hospital to serve the Bloemfontein area. The existing national district hospital was constructed in 1935. It has 200 beds but only 124 are functional due to infrastructure constraints. A new 360-bed hospital is proposed to replace the facility.
The new hospital’s inpatients, outpatients and emergency departments will offer primary care up to general practitioner level.
A consultant is sought to develop a comprehensive feasibility study, including a full business case for the Mangaung District Hospital project, as well as provide a plan for its development, execution, and operation.
