Albayrak Signs Congo Port Concession

[ad_1]

Turkey’s Albayrak Group signed a 25-year concession agreement in January to operate the conventional terminal at the Autonomous Port of Pointe-Noire on the Republic of Congo’s Gulf of Guinea coast.
The contract will see the group rehabilitate, modernise, operate and maintain the terminal as well as carry out handling operations for general and bulk cargo and other cargo types.
Albayrak Group intends to invest €401 million (US$432 million) at the deepwater port.
The programme of planned work includes dredging, modernising the port facilities and infrastructure, building logistics warehouses and investing in a new truck fleet. Also on the horizon is the rehabilitation of the Congo Ocean railway, which connects the port to the city of Brazzaville.
Albayrak Group is also involved in concessions at ports in Somalia, The Gambia and Guinea.
The Albayrak concession agreement comes several months after the Republic of Congo awarded UAE-based AD Ports Group a 30-year concession to manage and operate the New East Mole Terminal at Pointe-Noire.
AD Ports Group, which is majority-owned by Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund ADQ, will invest more than US$500 million over the life of the concession, with around US$220 million allocated for phase 1, which is expected to be completed over the next 30 months.
